November Newsletter
NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER
Bonjour
Parents,
The
October rush is over and now we’re into November (how time flies!). Our spider unit has been going really well
and we will be finishing it off shortly (once all the research projects are
completed). The project will stay at
school as part of their portfolio but the rest of the unit will be sent home
once it’s completed. We will also be
finishing off our “les monstres” unit. Student portfolios will be sent home at
the end of term one.
Here’s
what’s coming up for this month…
Mathématiques: We will be mainly concentrating on
measurement. They will be learning about
non-standard and standard units (mm, cm, m).
The children have started number of the day and word problems
independently in their math journals. We
will be continuing with regular math routines such as math strategies,
calendar, number of the day, math games, number sense, mental math skills,
etc.
Français: We will be doing an author study on the
French-Canadian author and illustrator, Marie-Louise Gay. This unit will trickle into December. A variety of activities will done in
correspondence with her books. We will continue with “les sons” and also begin
with our French guided reading groups and our French Home Reading program.
E.L.A.: We will start a unit on the author Robert
Munsch. We will be doing numerous activities with this. This unit will trickle into December. We will be having a family celebration
luncheon on Friday, December 13 from 11:30-12:30 in collaboration with this
author and Marie-Louise Gay. More information about this luncheon will
be sent home but please be aware that you and your family are invited to come
to school for that day/time. We will
continue our regular English routines such as poetry, Daily 5 centres, sounds,
etc.
Sciences de la nature: We will be doing a unit on “La
position et le mouvement” (position and movement). At the end of this unit, the children will be
making a car and testing it out to ensure it can move.
Have a
great month!
Mme. Kovach
